About Happy Hippie Studio

Andrea Lucas' passion for stained glass began as a child when she was astounded by the brilliant, glorious windows in Notre Dame Cathedral. Raised on a farm in Perry County, Alabama, Andrea is a home grown Southern woman to the core. Her Studio is now in a barn on her property in Pelham, Alabama and is open by appointment. She gets artistic inspiration from the people she loves, the critters she is surrounded by, the beautiful view from every window of her Studio and from God himself.

Andrea constructs her stained glass windows using the Tiffany method developed by Lois Comfort Tiffany during the late 1800's. Materials used are of course: stained glass, copper, zinc, lead and tin. All jewelry is made with glass, stone, metal and hemp. Happy Hippie never uses plastic!

The design and construction of stained glass windows is a very lengthy 9-step process beginning with the design and drawing of the pattern, cutting, grinding, cleaning, foiling, fluxing, soldering, cleaning again, framing, applying patina, clean, clean, clean, polish, polish, polish, create and attach hanging apparatus and volia...your finished. Keep in mind that all of the above has to be done to each individual piece and Andrea's window have hundreds of pieces !!

Andrea has always been involved in the arts in some degree and aside from taking a stained glass course years ago Andrea has been self taught. Currently she is working on a 50 square foot window for the new Knesseth Israel Synagogue in Birmingham Andrea would like to give a personal thank you to all who simply take the time to pause a moment and cast their eyes on her ALABAMA BORN CREATIONS.
